Surprise is what I look for in the process of art making. The visual freedom when working in abstraction quite often produces captivating and surprising results. Much of my work references visual patterns in nature, landscape, clouds, wave patterns, and oval forms. In addition, I enjoy studying the rich textural details in natural fibers and woven fabrics where folds, pleats, and undulating surfaces convey light and shadow that offer abundant information for use in my drawings and paintings. In my art making process, it is the intuitive decisions that can often, but not always, bring elements of surprise.
